2023-2024: Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus - Hebrews 12:1-2

Paul writes his second letter to Timothy to help the next generation become “vessels for honor.” This phrase beautifully compares Christians to a precious container that has been chosen by a great King for a noble purpose. Like every family, we need time together for our bonds of fellowship and friendship to thrive. This year our theme will help us reconnect with one another by emphasizing the genuine acts of love that Jesus desires for His disciples. 2019-2020: To God Be The Glory

Key Verses: “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:3)

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)

Purpose of the Theme:

This theme will strengthen members by calling attention to the glory God possesses, the glory God demonstrates, and the glory God deserves. This will help us give Him the glory He is due in every aspect of our lives. We want each member to see Him as the source of every good thing, and to respond with grateful and humble hearts. • Increase our comprehension of the unique glory characteristic of God’s nature (1 Timothy 6:16).
• Understand the reason for creation and redemption (Rev. 4:11).
• Encourage awareness of God as the source of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17).
• Be motivated to glorify God and to explore ways of doing so (1 Corinthians 10:3).
• Identify the blessings we receive from glorifying God (2 Corinthians 4:18).
• Anticipate the glorious day when Jesus returns. (Philippians 2:9-11)

This theme is also a guard against distractions. As we experience growth in numbers and the expansion of facilities, we must avoid any pride in these perceived achievements and remain focused on what truly matters: our commitment to glorify God in everything we do. “Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Philippians 4:20)

2018-2019: Free In Christ

Key Verse: Galatians 5:1, 13-14
 1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. ¹³ For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  ¹⁴ For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Purpose of the Theme:

Freedom is one of the most celebrated concepts in both the Bible and modern culture.  God grants us freedom from everything that hurts us, to everything that is good for us.  However, freedom is also one of the most misunderstood concepts.

Christians, who actually possess the greatest freedom in Christ, sometimes don't feel free as they seek to obey God's many commandments. Yet, the lost often boast about their sense of personal freedoms while being completely blind to the slavery to sin they are suffering from and trapped in.  God's word teaches us about the incredible freedom He grants to us in Christ, and this year's study will focus on these passages...

• To help saints treasure their freedom in Christ.
• To teach saints to maximize their freedoms with love.
• To grow in the qualities Galatians describes as hallmarks of Christian Freedom.
• To help saints break free from Satan's traps of enslavement.
• To joyfully declare freedom in Christ to our community.

Purpose of the Theme:

Building our lives on Jesus Christ is the only way to stand strong against the storms of life.  This year we will focus on the evidence and the actions that characterize a life well built on the Rock of Jesus Christ.

2016-2017: Walk As Children of Light

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:8-14
 8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
     “Awake, O sleeper,
      and arise from the dead,
      and Christ will shine on you.”

Purpose of the Theme:

This year’s theme is set apart from previous years because there is a strong emphasis on our personal moral choices. The theme is a challenge to all of us to ask: Where do I need to make changes in my life to be a greater Light in the world? It is our desire that the them will help us... 

• To be more aware of and committed to our identity as God’s children and therefore share in the holiness of Christ.
• To work more diligently in finding out what is pleasing to the Lord in all things, particularly in moral choices.
• To understand and acknowledge the unfruitfulness of sin so that we will not be attracted to it but will grow in our hatred of it.
• To strengthen our resolve, wisdom, and ability to resist temptation to sin.
• To live and speak in ways that expose darkness so that sinners can be saved.

2015: Sharing the Hope That Is In Us

Purpose of the Theme:

To help us as a congregation and as individuals to be more aware of what we believe and how to teach others.  Primary focus will be on the hope that we have in Christ.  Lessons and activities will be designed to explain that hope and to further confirm what we believe and why.  Additional emphasis will be placed on effectively teaching others through the right spirit (gentleness and respect), accordingly the theme will focus internally (understanding our hope) and externally (explaining our faith to anyone who asks).
